Public Development Banks Database

The first database on Public Development Banks (PDBs)

The Institute of New Structural Economics (INSE) of Beijing University and the French Development Agency (AFD) have joined hands to create the first comprehensive database on Public Development Banks (PDBs) and Development Financing Institutions (DFIs). Uncovering this blind spot of the global financial architecture is central to building a coalition to shift resource flows towards sustainable development. The database will be officially launched at the second Finance in Common Summit on October 20, 2021.

Although PDBs and DFIs can potentially play a more and more important role in overcoming crises, tackling climate change, and promoting economic structural transformation worldwide, there is a huge gap in terms of identifying these public financial institutions and collecting relevant data on their role, functioning and effectiveness. In a new joint report, INSE and AFD propose refined qualification criteria of PDBs and DFIs and potential typologies to reveal their vast diversity.
