Africa Solar Facility
The Africa Solar Facility (ASF) is a flagship initiative under the Global Solar Facility (GSF), led by the International Solar Alliance (ISA), aimed at catalyzing solar investments across Africa. ASF is designed to raise $200 million in capital, targeting the deployment of 1.6 GW+ of solar capacity, reducing 1.4 million tons of CO₂ emissions annually, and providing electricity access to 5 million people.
ASF is anchored by strategic contributions from ISA and the Government of India, with GOI committing $25 million and ISA contributing $10–15 million in junior capital. These anchor investments are expected to unlock significant leverage—mobilizing up to $700 million from other sovereigns and development finance institutions (DFIs).
Managed by Africa50, ASF uses blended finance instruments—guarantees, insurance, and technical assistance—to de-risk investments and attract commercial capital. It focuses on decentralized solar technologies and country-specific interventions, with governance led by a global steering committee including anchor investors.
ASF is central to ISA’s mission to accelerate universal energy access and climate resilience in Africa, supported by a digital platform and partnerships with entities like the World Bank, GCF, and MIGA.
