
AfIDA Catapult Accelerator
The AfIDA Catapult is a mentoring and peer-peer learning platform for developers of energy and infrastructure projects in Africa, established to leverage the depth of skills and capital in AfIDA membership to assist project developer achieve better outcomes in terms of speed, success rate and quality. A dynamic of better success in a timely manner should help in addressing the persistent investment gap in African energy and infrastructure.
Over the last three years, thirty-seven developers have pitched projects in twenty-one African countries, including regional projects. These projects are together raising $20.9 billion for clean energy generation, bio-fuels, transmission, digital ICT, water, airports, rail, SEZs, urban infra and new-cities, and include private sector led, PPP and public-sector AU-NEPAD projects.
Over forty senior executives from established developers, funds, PDBs, and advisers have mentored these project teams, and the first projects are in financial close - assisted by this process.
In addition the Accelerator includes training (Project Development and Finance) as well as advocacy and thought leadership actives such as the White Papers on 'De-Risking Project Development' and the 'Roadmap for New-City Developers'.
