Since 2018, the International Development Finance Club (IDFC) decided to engage more substantially on Sustainable Finance and SDG Alignment, building on its historical anchoring on Climate and Paris Alignment Finance by establishing a working Group on SDG Alignment.
This work focuses on studying all fields to unleash the potential of IDFC members and Public Development Banks in achieving the SDGs. Various research and position papers have been published since then.
To go a step further, IDFC launched in summer 2021 a dedicated study with Natixis CIB (Green and Sustainable Hub) to provide IDFC members with a conceptual framework, as well as guidance, tools, and concepts to help them operationalize the SDGs in their practices. Then, IDFC Secretariat and Natixis organized a 2-day seminar in September 2022 to foster understanding and collaboration on the outputs of the study and pave the way towards operationalization. 6 workshops led by IDFC members, such as Bancoldex, CDG Capital, Türkiye Sınai Kalkınma Bankası (TSKB), and The French Development Agency were held. The workshops deep-dived on topics such as: anchoring its SDG action into the country roadmap; diagnosis on the level of integration of SDGs and use of dedicated tool to facilitate further integration; External Engagement and accountability.
This work is perfectly in line with the dialogue initiated between the public development banks and the private investors and the willingness of both parts to develop a common language around the definition, tracking and accounting of climate and SDG-aligned finance and investment.
