On 28 September, a High-level Event on Jobs and Social Protection for Poverty Eradication, in the context of the United Nations General Assembly and in the presence of the UN Secretary General and other distinguished guests, highlighted the vulnerabilities of our economies and societies evidenced by the Covid-19 crisis. The event also shed light on the critical importance of frontline workers and of enhancing effective social systems that take care of people during such shocks. As high-level speaker Rémy Rioux, CEO of AFD urged well-funded and integrated social protection mechanisms to speed up recovery, including in countries most affected by the social and economic impacts of the pandemic. Rioux recalled that public development banks play a major role in these efforts. In the context of the Finance in Common initiative, the thematic Coalition for Social Investment, will be pivotal in promoting high quality social support.
