The first meeting of the Task Force on Foresight for Sustainable Development Finance will take place on Monday October 18, 2021 from 13:00 to 15:00 CET before the second edition of Finance in Common Summit, as part of the G20 agenda.
In an increasingly complex and volatile world, today’s challenges require anticipatory approaches. An increasing number of financial stakeholders, in particular those involved in sustainable finance, seek to integrate uncertainty and a better use of the futures in their strategies, activities and operating modalities. Finance is the main economic instrument linking corporates, institutions, communities and individuals to the futures we all want. It is a major trigger for change, even more so in times of health, social, economic and environmental crises. It is pivotal in building back better and in aligning short-term decision making with longer-term sustainability goals.
The four objectives of the meeting are as follows:
- Discuss opportunities and challenges, as well as possible collective action, in mainstreaming futures thinking within financial institutions and the financial community at large
- Consolidate a community of finance actors interested in participating in the task force’s activities
- Shape the task force’s work programme and governance arrangements
- Show how sustainable development finance and climate work can become more impactful with a better integration of uncertainty and foresight
